Why is the climate changing so drastically?

Our Changing Climate:
The main cause of severe climate change is global warming. Global warming is the destruction of the ozone in the upper layer of our atmosphere brought on by fluorocarbons produced from burning fossil fuels. This destruction of the upper atmosphere causes a green house effect. The sun's harmful radiation, which is usually blocked by this very thin layer of protection, is now able to penetrate down to the surface of the planet. It then bounces off the ground and is reflected back down by our lower atmosphere causing it to heat up as the radiation can not escape our air. BTW an additional source of global warming can be attributed to aerosol cans and refrigerants that escape into the air. (read more)
Another cause of our climate issue is the heating of our earth's core. As the earth's core is heated it exerts millions of tons of pressure in an outward direction. This heat is also kept in our atmosphere as it heats the air above the ground. But the pressures below the surface finally work their way to the surface as the molten rock (magma & lava) force their way through the earths crust forming hot springs, earthquakes and volcanoes. These emit hot gases into our atmosphere further increasing the green house effects. As global warming increases, these effects increase. (read more)
Finally, the heating earth's core and the greenhouse effect heats our seas & oceans causing typhoons, hurricanes and tsunami (title waves) and other unusual atmospheric (weather) conditions such El Nio & La Nia weather patterns. These can produce drought in some areas, record rain in other areas. Cold climates can heat up causing ice glaciers to melt and tropical areas to dry out. And the earth is now taking a spiraling downward trend to all of our eco systems. (read more)
What the Bible says about climate changes in the last days:Does the bible make any correlations about severe climate changes and the end of the world? It sure does! In fact it has allot to say about this subject and we will look at many of those references now.
Mathew 24: 7-8
For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows...
Questions about the end of the world are nothing new. Here we have Jesus, sitting on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. His disciples came to Him and asked, "Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age? (Mathew 24:3).
Note that the question has (3) parts.The first part of the question, "when will these things be?", refers back to what He had told them in Mathew 23:39, "you shall see Me no more till you say, Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!" The Jews had long been waiting for their Messiah to come and rescue them from bondage and slavery to foreign nations. The messiah was prophesied to come and establish a one world government with Israel as the country and their Messiah the ruler. The messiah was to be the "King of kings and Lord of lords." Ironically, the Jews are still praying for this very thing today at the Wailing Wall; the only part of the Temple of Solomon left standing till this day!
The second part of the question, "what will be the sign of Your coming?", is very interesting as it shows the strong belief the Jews have traditionally had in signs and wonders. Jesus had already told them "An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah." in Mathew 12:39. This is a very important teaching that Jesus made and it bears a little attention.
Human nature tempts us to always want "proof" The Jews were no acceptation to this failure. We as humans fail to understand the implication of requiring a sign. Why do we want proof? Because it turns the table on things we don't agree with. It makes US the judge and God's Messenger the defendant. God's messenger (and in effect; God Himself) has to prove his messages are true by performing some act which defies nature and proves He is telling the truth or face the ridicule and judgment of us. God will NEVER let us judge Him, He is God and He alone is the Ultimate Judge! After all he made us, we did not make Him!
So what is this reference to the "sign of the prophet Jonah"? With this, Jesus is telling us He will not Prove Himself to us! Jonah was a prophet who refused to do God's bidding. He refused to preach to Nineveh God's words as he feared if warned them, they would repent and God would forgive them. But Jonah hated them and did not want God to forgive them. So he refused to go. God had Jonah cast into the sea where he had a fish prepared to swallow Jonah. Jonah was as good as dead. He was "buried" under the waves in a fishy grave for 3 days. The he was set free as the fish spat him up on the ground. Jesus was saying that the only sign He (God) would give to us, was the sign of Jesus' death, burial and resurrection on the 3rd day. We either believe that or we have no other proof. Basically, you are saved by faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ for your sins. It is the only sign you will ever get from God!
In The last part of the question, "sign of the end of the age?", Jesus answers, but only after qualifying His answer about seeking signs in general. He does not answer it as someone who has to prove Himself with a sign! He tells us that the last days would begin with such things as "nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places". The key here is not that there would be wars, famines, pestilence and earthquakes, but rather that they would be occurring (simultaneously) in many places at once (global occurrences)!
2 Peter 3:10
"But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up".
In this verse, Peter is referring to what will ultimately happen when Jesus returns to the earth to take possession over it as "King of Kings and Lord of Lords"! While we are seeing the beginning of this judgment unfolding in the process of Global Warming, it ultimately will culminate with total destruction of all life forms and vegetation, including mankind! Ironically, the only survivors of this Holocaust will be the Jews and people who are sealed (protected) by God through this devastating event!
Revelations 6:12-17
"I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place. And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?
Revelations 8:1-12
When He opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets. Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angels hand. Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it to the earth. And there were noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake. So the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound. The first angel sounded: And hail and fire followed, mingled with blood, and they were thrown to the earth. And a third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up. Then the second angel sounded: And something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood. And a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed. Then the third angel sounded: And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the water, because it was made bitter. Then the fourth angel sounded: And a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them were darkened. A third of the day did not shine, and likewise the night."
Finally, we have the best description of the culmination of climate changes that will engulf the earth before the return of Christ: outright chaos! Notice the numerous things that affect our climate (i.e. the air we live in). Things such as: "a great earthquake", "sun became black", "moon became like blood" - the result of volcanic smoke filling the air, "stars of heaven fell to the earth" - meteorite showers, "every mountain and island was moved out of its place" - continent drifts along major fault lines, "noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake" - major hurricanes, typhoons, tidal waves and earthquakes, "hail and fire followed, mingled with blood" - explosion debris and hail fall back to the earth, "third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up" - major forest fires and rivers of lava, "something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood. And a third of the living creatures in the sea died" - a meteor crashes into the sea killing 1/3 of life as its poisonous gasses and chemicals are spread in the ocean's currents and "a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the water, because it was made bitter." - Wormwood literally means bitter. An interesting thing to consider is what would happen if a large meteorite, comprised of frozen poisonous gases entered our atmosphere and disintegrated on its way around the globe in an arc as it fell across the sky. The frozen gasses would dissolve and fall to the ground covering approximately 1/3 of the earth's surface. This poisonous gases and chemicals could easily poison 1/3 of rivers and lakes!
Multiple Fulfillment of ProphecyWhile these verses serve as a description of the ultimate fulfillment of prophecy related to climate devastation, they also fall within a very important prophetic doctrine: The Multiple Fulfillment of Prophecy Principle. This doctrine which is well documented in the bible is the principle whereby a prophecies fulfillment may be done over many repetitions until the ultimate prophecy is fulfilled. For example, a prophecy may be filled in a small way during the life of the prophet but that fulfillment is just a representation of the ultimate fulfillment. The original fulfillment may be limited to a country or small geographical area but the ultimate is global in scope. We are experiencing these minor fulfillments (global warming for example) now in a small way to demonstrate the potential of the ultimate; like a trailer to a movie. |
Summary
We are being
warned! God is showing us what His purpose for this
world entails. As we get closer and closer to the end,
the world has become more and more sinful! And
unfortunately, this condition will worsen till He
returns and redeems us from ourselves. Don't let sin,
self or Satan who has invaded our planet separate you
from the free gift of salvation that Jesus extends to
you in His invitation to be born-again:
For God so loved the world that He gave His only
begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not
perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send
His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that
the world through Him might be saved. “He who believes
in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe
is condemned already, because he has not believed in
the name of the only begotten Son of God. (John 3:16-18)
